For those of you that have been keeping in touch with us via the web it may com
e as no surprise to hear that the Elk population is at an all time high here in our hunting area. Since the brow tine bull restriction was instated in our region back in 1997, the hunting has just gotten better and better each year. Our cow elk base has also been on the increase and reproduction has been phenomenal. This in turn has created a major increase in the number of bull elk in the area that we hunt creating great hunting opportunities for our Clients.
The archery season began on Sept. 6th this year and as expected, was action packed! Bulls were found bugling in all of their old haunts as well as many places we hadn't expected to find them due to the high numbers of elk in the area. This made for great hunting action as almost every day we hit the mountains with our clients we were getting bulls in within shooting range. Sometimes the cover
would just be right to make for a perfect shot while other times it may be to thick for a shot. This is what makes archery hunting so exciting as a bull can be standing right next to our clients and for one reason or another the bull walks on by. At any rate, Sept. produced some really nice bulls for our clients had lots of hunting tales for them to take home. Check out our pictures!!
The opening of Rifle Season found us in the high country glassing for elk in the distant openings and clear
cuts. With three clients in camp opening week, we felt the odds were good for every one taking home a nice animal. The weather was mild opening day and the elk were bugling big time in certain areas but as the week played out our first taste of winter hit making for good hunting conditions. Lots of bulls were spotted with two nice bulls being taken and one nice 5 by 5 Muley Buck. Even though we missed a couple of bigger bulls, everyone was happy and we had a great week of hunting.
The fourth week of season found us hosting our next group of hunters, a father and son from PA. and 2 fellas from Mich.. We had good snow on the ground creating excellent tracking conditions and also pushing the animals
down off the mountain ridges. The whitetail and muley bucks were both in rut making the deer hunting awesome!! As many as 7 bucks were seen on any given day. The week went by fast and we were able to down a couple of nice whitetail bucks along with one nice bull. The bigger bucks had a way of creating buck fever and slipping through the grasp of our hunters but that's just a part of hunting. All in all, we had a great rifle season with everyone going home happy.
We had four Lion hunters this year with three being here on opening day. We had good snow, however it rained quite a bit the first week but we did manage to get three nice lions by the 6th day. Our fourth 4th hunter arrived the 7th and we were able to get another lion in a few days. The lion population is still very healthy, so the odds are good that anybody booking with us will take a lion home.
If you are looking for a hunt for the fall of 2004, don't wait to long as
we are filling allot of our spots. Get in touch with us so we get set a hunt up. We have also made a few changes in our winter show schedule. We will not be at the Harrisburg Outdoor Show however we will be at the Outdoor Rama at Novi MI in Feb.
That's about all from this end and we are looking forward to hearing from you!! As always --- good hunting.
