Spring 2004 Newsletter Spring 2004 Newsletter Hello friends, With winter gone and spring here we felt it was time to update you on what’s new here in Trout Creek. First of all, winter was mild especially the last couple of weeks in March and 1st week in April the mercury has seen the low 60's on a regular basis. The deer and elk are all over right now feeding in the valley fields and on the south slopes that are greening up. The other morning, on a scouting trip, we saw 16 bulls in one group. It will be great hunting again this fall! Over the winter we had the opportunity to purchase a hunting permit on the Kootenai National Forest. This will expand our hunting area by 3 times. We are looking forward to hunting this area, as we are very familiar with it. For those of you who know us, you know that we hunted this territory when we guided for Jeffs Dad. It will also let us hunt closer to home. Along with this permit was another campsite up in the backcountry so we will have two camps now instead of one. This will be an excellent addition to our outfitting business and on that will enhance our clients hunting adventures here at Bullseye Outfitting. Spring bear season is just around the corner and we are expecting another banner season as the snow is going fast and spring has been early this year. This all makes for great bear hunting. Jeff and I saw 61 bear in the first 2 weeks of May. This is a nice time to be in the woods with an excellent chance of taking home a trophy bear! I you are interested in a hunt like this, we have until April 14 to get a license from the State so we need to get the ball rolling soon. Check out the elk sheds we've found in the last couple of weeks. The biggest bull's antlers score 371 in B&C and the next one scores 342. These are the caliber of bulls a person has a chance of taking home when hunting with us and remember these bulls are still roaming the mountains out there where we hunt. As you can see the regulations established in 97 are working very well and producing some monster bulls with our total over all elk population at an all time high. At this time there are licenses available of elk and deer this coming fall. Please keep in mind that elk and deer populations go up and down. The populations in our hunting are high right now. The elk a deer applications and outfitter certification form have to be received by Montana Fish and Game by March 15. Spring bear deadline is April 14. Fall bear and mountain lion deadline is August 31.
